• Archivist for the Synod of Victoria and Tasmania;
• Senior Fellow, School of Historical and Philosophical Studies, University of Melbourne;
• Fellow of Melbourne College of Divinity.

Previously he has also held the following roles:

• Professor of Church History, Theological Hall, Knox College Dunedin, 1965-81;
• Professor of Church History, Theological Hall, Ormond College, University of Melbourne, 1982-99.

Research interests include the churches in Australasia and Reformation History.
